Description & Applications
Description & origin
ω-Conotoxin CVIF is purified from Conus magus venom ducts using RP-HPLC followed by analytical quality control to ensure ≥ 98% purity. Mass spectrometry confirms correct disulfide connectivity and molecular weight (2727.1 Da). Peptide identity is further validated by NMR fingerprinting of backbone amide shifts.
Molecular targets
CVIF exhibits sub-nanomolar inhibition of N-type CaV2.2 channels (IC₅₀ 0.71 nM) and moderate activity on P/Q-type CaV2.1. Whole-cell patch data highlight potent suppression of neurotransmitter release in hippocampal neurons without significant effect on L-type channels. COA includes depolarization-triggered calcium influx traces pre- and post-toxin addition.
Research applications
- Synaptic transmission inhibition: Map presynaptic CaV contributions to neurotransmission.
- Analgesic benchmarking: Compare investigational N-type blockers against a well-characterized reference.
- Neurotransmitter release studies: Evaluate toxin effects on exocytosis using amperometry.

Format & handling
Reconstitute in 0.1% TFA water or 20 mM HEPES, pH 7.4. For cellular assays, dilute into physiological saline with 0.1% BSA to minimize adsorption. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles; aliquot into low-binding tubes.
Documentation
- COA: purity chromatogram, mass spectrum, potency tables, endotoxin (< 0.05 EU/μg).
- SDS: hazard statements, first aid, disposal instructions.
Safety notes
Use gloves and goggles; avoid aerosol generation. Neutralize residual peptide with 1% sodium hypochlorite prior to disposal.
