Quality, Compliance & Traceability
Operating under the technical direction of Latoxan S.A.S. (France), Venom Supplies enforces rigorous chromatographic, mass spectrometric, and bioactivity control systems to deliver reproducible, publication-ready venom reagents and WHO / European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) antivenom immunisation standards.
Analytical Methods
Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS)
Every venom fraction and synthetic peptide is profiled using nano-LC-MS/MS for accurate intact mass and peptide mapping. We confirm disulfide connectivity and detect modifications that may affect bioactivity.
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
Reversed-phase and ion-exchange HPLC quantify purity thresholds. Standard acceptance criteria require ≥ 95% purity; tighter specifications are available upon request.
Electrophysiology Validation
Key toxins undergo functional testing using manual or automated patch-clamp platforms. We report ICâ‚…â‚€, kinetics, and state dependence to accompany structural data.
Endotoxin & Bioburden Testing
LAL-based endotoxin assays ensure levels remain below 0.1 EU per microgram for peptides and under 0.5 EU per milligram for crude venom fractions. Microbial bioburden limits are enforced per lot.
Certifications & Standards
- Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001 principles and French laboratory standards
- Documentation practices consistent with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) expectations
- European Union CITES export and movement permits under Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97
- TRACES-NT (Trade Control and Expert System) electronic veterinary transit integration
- European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) alignment for biological raw materials and antivenom production
- Safety data compliance with European REACH (EC 1907/2006) and CLP (EC 1272/2008) regulations
- Animal welfare oversight meeting European Directive 2010/63/EU and AAALAC-equivalent standards
Specific certifications, batch audit reports, and quality dossiers are available under NDA for qualified institutional partners.
Documentation Process
Every shipment includes an authenticated Certificate of Analysis (CoA) summarising:
- Lot number, extraction date, and geographic provenance
- Purity confirmation (analytical HPLC) and molecular weight identity (LC-MS / MALDI-TOF)
- Functional bioactivity assays and enzymatic specific activities (where applicable)
- Bacterial endotoxin (LAL) quantitation and Karl Fischer residual moisture content
- Recommended cryopreservation storage temperature and re-test timelines
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) adhere to EU REACH / GHS formatting, outlining toxicological hazard classifications, personal protective equipment (PPE) recommendations, spill neutralisation protocols, and disposal procedures.
Batch-specific chromatograms, mass spectra, and electrophysiological recording traces are permanently archived and available upon request to support regulatory submissions with the EMA, FDA, or peer-reviewed publication.
Ethical Sourcing & Animal Welfare
Venom Supplies and Latoxan partner exclusively with licensed captive-breeding serpentaria and insectaria that prioritise animal welfare. Colonies are maintained under qualified veterinary supervision with enriched microhabitats, controlled photoperiods, and species-appropriate nutrition.
Venom extraction follows non-lethal milking techniques that minimise physiological stress. We do not source from wild-caught animals unless operating under official European conservation-linked permits with validated sustainable management objectives.
Our commitment extends to full audit transparency: full sourcing chain traceability dossiers are available upon institutional request.
